About this excursion

Wooglemai EEC provides an excellent learning environment for leadership and peer support training days. Students participate in a series of initiative games. Initiative games are short, exciting, structured games including activities like the plank steppers, spiders web, floor is lava and golf ball run. Students are given a short challenge briefing and are then required to work actively as a team to solve the challenge. Participation in these games help students to develop valuable life skills. The initiative games are linked to the quality teaching framework through the inclusion of high expectations, social support, engagement, student direction, self regulation and the use of explicit quality criteria. A debrief and reflection on leadership/ teamwork skills follows the activities. Any mistakes are promoted as opportunities for learning and future success.

Excursion activities

Session 1: Leadership discussion and initiative games
Students brainstorm the qualities of great leaders and reflect on how they can utilise those qualities during out initiative game. Once in groups, students participate in the Wooglemai 5 minute challenges (completing a number of different challenge activities.
Lunch
Students have recess before activities and a lunch break between session 1 and session 2.
Session 2: Bushwalk
Students are immersed in the beautiful surrounds of Nattai National Park to gain an understanding and appreciation for the natural environment. This walk allows for further development of student's leadership skills by looking at how they can be leaders in protecting the natural environment.
