Bowerbird Blues

About this excursion

Students are introduced to the world of the Satin Bowerbird through the picture book, “Bowerbird Blues” by Aura Parker, before embarking on a discovery bushwalk to study the natural habitat of the Wooglemai Bowerbird and the bower he has constructed and decorated. Students participate in a treasure hunt to find items of blue, followed by two learning activities chosen by schools to tailor this program to suit individual groups and educational focus.

Excursion activities

Choose 2 of the following activities for students to complete during the days program

STEM project - students are tasked with building a bower using natural materials.

Poetry Writing - students are scaffolded to create a unique piece of poetry about the Bowerbird.

Nature Weaving - using the same weaving skills as the Bowerbird students create a woven artwork.

Gel Printing - students create a printed artwork using a gelatin plate, ink and natural found items.

Session 1: Bushwalk

Lunch
Students have recess before activities and a lunch break between session 2 and session 3
