Aussie Bus Safari

About this excursion

Students will be thoroughly engaged in our hands-on activities as they explore the beautiful natural surrounds of Wooglemai EEC. On a bushwalk in the stunning Nattai National Park, they will hone the use of their senses to collect data about the variety of living things that inhabit this forest ecosystem. Dip netting in our purpose built pond encourages students to examine a range of local aquatic creatures including tadpoles. Our taxidermy and preserved animals provide an enthralling display as students learn about animal life cycles and the grouping of living things.

Excursion activities

Session 1: Bushwalk and Invertebrate search

Students discover the sights, sounds, smells and feel of the bush as they discover who calls this forest home. Using scientific catching cubes, they

Investigate the variety of terrestrial invertebrates that inhabit the leaf litter.

Lunch
Students have recess before activities and a lunch break between session 1 and session 2.
Session 2: Dipnetting and Classroom study
Students dip net for aquatic creatures including tadpoles in our purpose-built pond and use our taxidermy and preserved specimens to learn about life cycles, simple food chains and how living things can be grouped.
