HPGE Leadership Days
About this excursion
Wooglemai EEC has developed HPGE for leadership and peer support programs that can be delivered to a single schools leadership team, or we have developed community of schools and small school leadership days combining the leaders of a number of schools working together. Students participate in a series of initiative games. Initiative games are short, exciting, structured games including activities like the plank steppers, spiders web, floor is lava and golf ball run. Students are given a short challenge briefing and are then required to work actively as a team to solve the challenge. Participation in these games helps to extend students social and emotional skills and problem-solving abilities. Students will:
- Learn cooperatively
- Problem solve
- Think creatively
- Persevere
- See mistakes as opportunities for learning
- Act as team players
The initiative games are linked to the quality teaching framework through the inclusion of high expectations, social support, engagement, student direction, self regulation and the use of explicit quality criteria. A debrief and reflection on leadership/ teamwork skills follows the activities. Any mistakes are promoted as opportunities for learning and future success.
Excursion activities
Students are immersed in the beautiful surrounds of Nattai National Park to gain an understanding and appreciation for the natural environment. This walk allows for further development of student's leadership skills by looking at how they can be leaders in protecting the natural environment.
Or
Working with Wooglemai staff, students work in small teams (often school teams) to evaluate and develop actions that can be taken within their own school to see improvements in the environment, student run programs inside the school or community initiatives outside the school.
